Decisions Decisions...

I am EXTREMELY proud of myself.
I walked into my local craft store and walked out having only spent $3.00!
I found these adorable little knicknacks for $2.99 a piece.

I immediately thought of using them for something for the wedding. Guestbook table? Cake table? Place card settings table?

I knew I just had to pick them up, AND I had two 50% off coupons. (Special thanks to my sister. I tossed her one, gave her a coupon and some cash and sent her in line)

She thinks I should paint them. I think I want to leave them the way they are.

What would you do?

Glass Pendants

So, I'm getting married in 2013. I'm super excited and most of the decorations will be DIY. The first project I decided to do was a glass pendant to hang off my bouquet.

Unfortunately, I do not have any living grandparents. I've heard of some brides leaving open chairs with a rose on it, to symbolize the presence of the departed. I wanted to include my grandparents in a less obvious way, through photos.

I got most of the things to make these pendants at a crop. It was a make and take and I just *knew* I had to buy the kit. The company I bought them from was Craft Fantastic.

Here is what you will need:
Glass tiles
A photo (I printed mine with an ink jet printer)
E6000 Multi Purpose Adhesive
Dimensional Lacquer (I used Glossy Accents)
Xacto Knife
Small paintbrush
Any style paper for the back of your pendant.
Pendant bail

I made 3 of these. (I'm also giving one to my sister for her bouquet for when she gets married in May, and I'm giving one to my mom.)
I printed the picture with an ink jet printer, resized in Paint (but you can use whatever program you desire.) Make sure the image you want will fit within your glass tile.

Get your photo and background paper in front of you. Take some lacquer and cover the back of your photo with it. Stick your photo to the plain side of your background paper. (Clearly, mine wasn't straight. In this instance, it didn't matter.)

Take your cleaned glass pendant (these are simply cleaned with hot water and soap) and squeeze tiny puddles in each corner and the center.

Lightly place the glass piece, lacquer side down onto your photo, press down. Take your brush and brush away the "oozed" lacquer along the edges.
Allow to dry.

This is where I took my xacto knife to trim the edges. Scissors would work here as well. Trim the photo as close to the glass as you can. Brush another thin layer of lacquer across the back of the pendant and set to dry.

Apply a tiny amount of multi purpose adhesive (I used E6000) to the backside of the bail. (I do not have photos of this step, sorry.)
Also, apply a tiny amount of adhesive to the spot of the pendant where the bail meets it. Center and press the bail to the back of the pendant and let dry.

Here is where you can make these into anything you'd like.
A necklace?
Something to hang from your rearview mirror?
I'm going to get ribbon so they can be attached to my bouquet :)
I'm trying to get a picture of my other set of grandparents and do the same with that one.

I'd love to see your creations if you decide to give this a shot!

Stay Sassy!!

Busy Busy Busy!

Wow! Time flies. Been working a on a few projects here and there in between the holidays. I'm struggling to find a good way to photograph the steps, my cameras do not want to cooperate. Nonetheless, I will have a few posts after the first of the year.

Want a few hints? Of course you do :)

One is something to hang on your wall that won't cost a fortune...and the other you can hang ANYWHERE! From your rearview mirror...around your neck. Me? I'm using mine in my wedding. :)

Welcome to my blog!

Hello there, fellow crafters.
I started this blog because I love to make my fiance crazy with messes I make. Seriously, crafting in an apartment is no easy feat. I actually went almost a whole year without doing anything because I was afraid to leave my stuff out and aggravate him. Well guess what? I'm afraid no longer!

I grew up always doing different crafts as a kid. My mom was big into sewing, (I'm glad I don't have pictures of some of the outfits she made us), plastic canvas, anything we could do without hurting ourselves, mom let us do...in moderation.

For a long time, scrapbooking was my hobby. I started with magazine cutouts, photos and glue. I cherish those albums, even though looking at them now compared to my new stuff, makes me cringe. I refuse to re-do them, though.

I decided just recently that I want to expand my crafting abilites and try new things. This blog will be just that. Documenting my *attempts* at different crafts...while on a budget. I will try new things, including but not limited to, home decor, holiday gifts, and of course WEDDING do-it-yourself crafts. (I'm getting married in 2013!)

Feel free to leave comments, critisim and anything you may want. I will always to link back to the original idea if it is not my own, so no worries, I'm not a thief. If you see something that is yours and I didn't credit it, please let me know.

Happy Crafting everyone!!
